LIVE

2008 / KELLER WILLIAMS WITH MOSELEY, DROLL & SIPE

This project was a means of me living out my childhood fantasies of being in a rock band. Along with the rock, this band easily slipped into jazz, funk, reggae and disco. This was my first real band since the early 90’s and I took it very seriously and toured it hard. We did multiple bus tours all around the country over an 18 month period (Spring 2007 – Fall 2008). In my mind, documentation of this project was mandatory and what better way than a live album/DVD. LIVE is a 3 disc live set, the first two discs are very close to what one of our shows would be like. The third disc is a DVD. It was shot by Scott Johnson, who was along for the ride doing live video production, which involves multiple camera’s powered by remote control. He would project images onto a large screen behind the stage, it would be a mix of live camera footage as well as other footage he collected that pertains to the songs. The third disc DVD was edited live on the spot at the various shows we were playing. Like all my records, this was a means of documentation, as this project was and is very special to me. –Kw

What the paid professionals say:
Keller Williams has built a career on his uncanny ability to captivate a packed house, all by himself. So why now, after fifteen-years as a solo artist, is he releasing a live album, simply titled, Live, with three other names on the cover? It turns out that since he first picked up a guitar, this troubadour has wanted to front a band. On Live (September 2008 / SCI Fidelity Records), Keller taps into the world-class talent of Keith Moseley (bass, The String Cheese Incident), Gibb Droll (guitar, Marc Broussard, Brandi Carlile), and Jeff Sipe (drums, Aquarium Rescue Unit, Leftover Salmon). The musical horsepower of four friends playing together on stage proves stronger than even Keller had dreamed. Recorded at select live shows during a winter 2007-2008 tour, and featuring seventeen tracks that span Keller‚ career, Live is a testament to how a band, with the right chemistry and chops, can take a song to places even the writer couldn’t have imagined.
